SWMS and safety docs for fencers

Do fencers need a SWMS?

Often. Digging post holes near underground power or gas, building front fences next to a road in use, putting up pool fences around a pool with water in it, and pulling out old fibro fences that may contain asbestos are all high risk construction work that needs a SWMS before it starts.

High risk work that comes up for fencers

These are the high risk construction work categories fencers run into most. If a job includes any of them, a SWMS is needed before the work starts.

What we would put in your Trade Pack

The Trade Pack is 5 SWMS covering the jobs you do most: $299 Ready to Go, or $795 Fully Custom, including GST. For fencers, these five are a common starting point. Swap any of them for the work you do most.

  1. Post hole digging near underground services
  2. Pool fencing
  3. Front fences and gates next to traffic
  4. Replacing old fibro fences
  5. Cutting and welding steel posts and panels

Other docs fencers ask for

  • SOPs for checking underground services, set-out and concreting posts
  • An induction pack for labourers
  • A WHS Starter Kit with incident forms

Worth knowing

Plenty of older fibro fences are asbestos cement. Removing more than 10 square metres of non-friable asbestos needs an asbestos removal licence, and 10 square metres is about 5.5 metres of 1.8 metre high fence. We write the SWMS for the work you are licensed to do, and we flag where a licensed removalist is needed.
