SWMS and safety docs for plumbers and gasfitters

Do plumbers and gasfitters need a SWMS?

Usually, yes. Trenches deeper than 1.5 metres, work on or near pressurised gas piping, roof plumbing with a fall of more than 2 metres, and work in pits or tanks that count as confined spaces are all high risk construction work that needs a SWMS before it starts.

High risk work that comes up for plumbers and gasfitters

These are the high risk construction work categories plumbers and gasfitters run into most. If a job includes any of them, a SWMS is needed before the work starts.

What we would put in your Trade Pack

The Trade Pack is 5 SWMS covering the jobs you do most: $299 Ready to Go, or $795 Fully Custom, including GST. For plumbers and gasfitters, these five are a common starting point. Swap any of them for the work you do most.

  1. Trenching and excavation
  2. Gas fitting on or near pressurised piping
  3. Roof plumbing and gutters
  4. Entering pits, tanks and chambers
  5. Hot work: brazing and soldering

Other docs plumbers and gasfitters ask for

  • SOPs for job setup, hot water installs and handover
  • An induction pack for apprentices
  • A WHS Starter Kit with incident forms

Worth knowing

Not every pit or tank is a confined space in the legal sense. If you tell us what you go into, we write the SWMS to match it.
